On March 2, 2010 Officer Gina Patterson had the privilege to participate in the Read Across America at Cornelius Elementary School.  Read Across America is an annual event developed by The National Education Association.  Now in its 12^th year, the event encourages children and parents to pick up their favorite books and read. The day is also special because it is the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss.

Officer Patterson, Dr. Matthew Zimmerman, and Cornelius Elementary School Vice Principal Elizabeth Brammer were guest readers at Cornelius Elementary School and were asked to read their favorite Dr. Seuss books. “I chose I Am Not Going to Get Up Today by Dr. Seuss,” Officer Patterson stated, “It’s a story I can totally relate to and also a lot of fun.”  At the end of the reading, the guests were presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for their participation.
