New Crown Victorias for Cornelius

By the end of April, residents of Cornelius will notice new police cars on patrol in neighborhoods, parks and shopping centers.Chief Bence Hoyle's determination to provide dependable and efficient equipment for his officers resulted in the purchase of 8 new patrol cars.Chief Hoyle plans to request the purchase of another set of vehicles during the next fiscal year. With 52% of the existing fleet more than 5 years old, and 30% rated in "poor" condition, Town Manager Anthony Roberts and the Town Board approved the vehicle purchase as a part of an ambitious and long overdue campaign to replace many high-mile, antiquated, and worn-out cars. The new patrol cars will begin the Department's transition from all white cruisers to black and white.CPD's newly designed badge/seal is incorporated into the new, professional exterior striping. Each of the new vehicles is up-fitted with one mobile data terminal that allows officers to enter reports and to be electronically dispatched on calls for service.Front-mounted heavy duty push bars will be used in certain emergency situations, such as moving vehicles from the roadway.Rear window bars provide additional safety for transporting detainees.Top-mounted LED light bars are significantly more visible to the public when a patrol car is on an emergency call in traffic. Each new item on the new patrol cars is an upgrade that will enhance both officer efficiency and improved service to the public.
