Officer Patterson DARES to teach students!
Officer Gina Patterson has been with the Cornelius Police Department for almost four years and during that time she has served as a patrol officer in the community. Officer Patterson is also a current member of the department’s Community Task Force. Her assignment at Cornelius Elementary and JV Washam Elementary Schools include the role of resource officer. Officer Patterson splits her time between the schools and keeps her on the scol grounds for several hours each day. She has become a recognizable figure to those passing by the school during arrival and dismissal times as Officer Patterson assists the school’s crossing guard with making sure students and parents make it safely across Catawba Avenue. While Charlotte has deleted all of their D.A.R.E. classes, Cornelius and JV Washam are committed to the program and are continuing to offer these classes with the enthusiastic support of Principal Barry Buford and Dr. Kathy Hammond. Officer Patterson says, “I am really excited about working with the children, their parents and the school staff. The D.A.R.E. program reinforces positive behavior and values. It can have a positive influence in the lives of students. I’m glad I can be a part of their school day!”
